Leveraging OpenStack for the Enterprise

What do the CERN particle accelerator, China Mobile, Walmart, Bloomberg, and AT&T all have in common? They all run clouds with OpenStack, the open source cloud operating system. Whether you should join them by deploying your own OpenStack cloud will be the topic of a HostingCon Global 2017 educational session led by Unitas Global founder and CTO Grant Kirkwood.

An OpenStack deployment enables the enterprise to focus on applications rather than infrastructure, while providing agility and flexibility, but seems to be beyond the resources of most organizations.

The OpenStack Foundation, meanwhile, has attempted to dispel the impression that it is only for large companies that can put together dedicated teams to run it, releasing survey results in 2016 which indicated it is most popular among medium-sized organizations. Enterprises are also doing more with OpenStack as their deployments mature, according to 451 Research, moving beyond testing and development and into infrastructure services, business applications, big data, web services and ecommerce.

For enterprise IT leaders considering an OpenStack deployment, Kirkwood will present “The Challenges and Opportunities of Leveraging OpenStack” to give them the understanding of the technology they need to properly evaluate their organization’s options. The Wednesday afternoon session will be purposely controversial, Kirkwood says, but also provide attendees with practical steps to take towards enabling the benefits of OpenStack for their organization. Prior to founding Unitas Global, Kirkwood served as CTO at PacketExchange, and he has become an OpenStack evangelist through a career in backbone and infrastructure engineering leadership.

HostingCon’s leading vendor-neutral educational sessions will showcase industry-changing technologies like OpenStack, along with current developments in business building, strategy, and security for companies in the cloud and service provider ecosystem.

HostingCon Global 2017 will be held April 3-6, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. Register now to attend and be sure to check out our exhibitor and sponsor opportunities.
